8/16/2008- Forest Lake Tops Ada 6-4 at State
Forest Lake took advantage of some clutch hitting and struck out 12 Ada batters to advance to the second round of the State Tournament held in Chaska and Shakopee. After allowing three runs in the second inning, Ada answered with three of their own in the third inning with RBI hits from Aaron Cook, Eric Hoffmann and Keith Hanson. Ada hurler David Spies was in control of the game until the first batter of the seventh inning hit a line drive off Spies' pitching hand, forcing him out of the game. Forest Lake proceeded to score three runs to take a 6-3 lead. Ada answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but Forest Lake's relief pitcher shut them down thereafter, hurling six strikeouts among the eight outs he recorded.
8/10/2008- Ada Uses Homeruns to Take Region Title
Eric Hoffmann hit a grand slam homerun in the first inning, and Anthony Brenner added a three-run shot in the third inning to lead Ada to a 12-10 win over the Bemidji Blue Ox. Bemidji had advanced by virtue of a 1-0 win over the Moorhead Brewers earlier in the day.

8/2/2008- Ada Clinches State Berth With Two Region Victories
Ada scores runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings, and staved off a 9th inning Moorhead Brewers rally to take a 6-4 victory and earn a berth in the State Tournament starting August 14 in Chaska. Ada rode the battery of Roseau draftee Derek Beirmaier on the mound and Crookston draftee Chance Keefe behind the plate; Beirmaier scattered six hits and helped his cause with a big RBI double in the 5th inning to get the A's on the board and tie the game at one. Ada followed that with some key hits in the next two innings to take a 6-2 lead. The effort was highlited by some sparkling defensive plays, including a highlite reel-esque double play started by shortstop Jameson Benson with the relay help of second sacker Adam Lee. With Brewers runners on third and second in the 9th inning, Eric Hoffmann came in to retire the final Brewer.
In Ada's opening game of the day, Ada broke open a tight 2-0 game against the Bemidji Blue Ox with a three-run 8th inning, highlited by Keith Hanson's two-out RBI single. Jameson Benson smacked a solo homerun earlier in the game, while Mike Gullingsrud was 4 for 5. David Spies pitched a complete game, scattering eight hits and hurling a mere 96 pitches as the A's advanced with a 5-1 win.
7/31/2008- Ada Wins Pitchers Duel 2-0 over Moorhead Miners
The A's scored one run in each of the first two innings, and rode the stellar pitching performance of Josh Remer for the win in the Region play-in game; Ada advances to play the Bemidji Blue Ox on Saturday, August 2 in Ada at 1:00. Remer scattered six hits, had four walks and five strikeouts and was backed up by several outstandingdefensive plays.
7/27/2008- EGF Rallies Once Again to Take Series
Ada jumped out to an early lead with seven runs in the first three innings, but EGF hung tough and took the lead with a three run seventh and a two run eighth, to take a 12-10 win. Ada's offense was paced by Aaron Cook's four-for- six performance with 5 RBI's, including a two-run homerun. Once again, Ada outhit EGF (18-12), but EGF made more effective use of their hits.
EGF advances to the Region 12C Tournament in Ada on August 1st and 8th. Ada will have to win play-in games on Wednesday the 30st and Thursday the 31st to qualify.
7/26/2008- EGF Rallies for Ninth Inning Win
East Grand Forks rallied for five runs in the ninth inning to take a 8-4 lead. Ada plated two runs on the bottom half of the frame, but the rally ended there. Ada left the bases loaded five times, and couldn't come up with enough clutch hits with runners in scoring position. Aaron Cook drove in three runs, including a two run homerun in the first inning.
The series moves back to EGF for the deciding game on Sunday, July 27 at 6pm.
7/24/2008- Ada Takes Series Opener from East Grand Forks
Ada made effective use of ten hits in scoring nine runs in a 9-3 win over the host East Grand Forks Heaters in the opening game of their best-of-three series. The game was scoreless until the top of the third, when Ada plated three runs from RBI hits by Chris Ellingson and Aaron Cook. Ada scored one more in the fifth inning, and added twp in the seventh and three in the eighth inning. Josh Remer allowed five hits in six innings to pick up the win.
Ada will host East Grand Forks on Saturday, July 26 in the second game, beginning at approximately 8pm, or upon the completion of the American Legion Baseball Tournament being held in Ada Friday through Sunday.
7/22/2008- Ada Tops Roseau to Win Series; Advance to Play EGF
Ada rode the steady arm of David Spies to a 9-2 win over visiting Roseau to take the best-of-three series 2-1. The A's scored two runs in each of the first two innings to take a 4-1 lead, and added four more in the sixth inning to break the game open. The A's punched out 16 hits, scattered throughout the lineup. Leading the way was Anthony Brenner (four hits, two RBI), Kenneth Hayden (two hits, two RBI), Keith Hanson, Aaron Cook and Eric Hoffmann (two hits apiece). Spies pitched seven innings, allowed four hits and walked only one batter.
Ada will play at East Grand Forks Thursday night to open a best of three series, with the winner advancing to the Region Tournament. The second and third games will be Saturday (Ada) and Sunday (EGF) nights.
7/20/08- Roseau Evens Series
Ada jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the host Royals answered with four runs in the bottom of the second inning, which was enough to secure a win and even the series at one game apiece. Roseau added some insurance runs with a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to guide them to a 7-1 victory. Ada managed only four hits in the contest; Roseau made much more effective use of their seven hits in securing the win.
7/18/2008- A's Take Opening Game of Playoff Series With Roseau
Ada broke away from the visiting Royals with six runs in the eighth inning to take a 12-4 win in Game One of the best-of-three series. Ada jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, on the strength of a three-run homer by Aaron Cook. The lead was extended to 6-0 after two innings, but Roseau chipped away at the lead by using several well-placed bunts and some extra base hits. Ada clung to a 6-4 lead in seventh inning with the tying run for Roseau on second base, but Eric Hoffmann came in relief of starter David Spies and fanned the next two batters to end the threat. Offensively, Ada pounded out 14 hits and was led in that category by Keith Hanson (four hits), Aaron Cook (two hits, three RBI, homerun) and Eric Hoffmann (three hits, three RBI). Dave Spies hurled 7.1 innings, allowing four runs while striking out seven batters. Eric Hoffmann picked up the save by striking out four of the five batters he faced.
Game 2 of the series will be Sunday, June 20 in Roseau at 2pm.
7/15/2008- East Siders top Ada in another slugfest
The visiting East Grand Forks Heaters outlasted the A's in a 16-14 win. Each team utilized several pitchers and other substitutions as they prepare for the upcoming league playoffs. EGF jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the third, only to see Ada respond with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning. Ada added runs in the next three innings to take a 14-10 lead, only to allow five runs in the seventh. AGF added an insurance run in the ninth. Ada's offense was paced by Mike Gullingsrud and Jameson Benson with three RBI's apiece, while Keith Hanson and Kenneth Hayden chipped in three hits apiece.
Ada will have homefield advantage against Roseau in the opening round of league playoffs. Ada will host on Friday, July 18 at 7:30, and will travel to Roseau on Sunday, July 20. Game Three, if necessary, will be Tuesday, July 22 in Ada.
7/14/2008- Bemidji Tops Ada in Slugfest
The visiting Mudcats topped the A's 18-9 in a game cut short in the top of the seventh inning due to lightning. Ada held leads early on of 3-2 and 6-4 on the strength of three-run homers by both Eric Hoffmann and Kenneth Hayden. Bemdji's offensive onslaught could not be stopped however, as they pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of several walks. Ada collected 11 hits in the game.
7/13/2008- Ada Sweeps Warroad Muskies
Ada took a pair of league games from the visiting Muskies on Sunday. David Spies hurled a two-hit shutout in the first matchup as the A's won 10-0 in six innings. Spies added punch on the offensive end as well with two hits, while Chris Ellingson added two hits and three runs and Keith Hanson also smacked out a couple of hits.
The second game was a close affair until the sixth inning, when the A's busted out for six runs. Clinging to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Keith Hanson drove a two-out pitch to the left field corner that plated three runs. Several hits and runs followed which led to the margin of victory. Hanson had 4 RBI's on the day, while Talor Sannes added three hits, including a long double to lead off the third inning, which led to the A's first run. Josh Remer pitched six innings, struck out nine Muskie batters, and picked up the win.
7/9/2008- Crookston Thumps A's
On the strength of four first inning walks, two hit batters and a couple of hits, Crookston jumped out to a 7-0 first inning lead and cruised to a 12-4 win in Crookston. Ada matched the Reds in hits with 12, but Crookston enjoyed many more free bases. Jameson Benson had three hits for Ada, while Chris Ellingson, Keith Hanson, and Kenneth Hayden chipped in two apiece.
7/8/2008- Ada Downs Hawley Hawks 8-5
Both teams entered the game in Ada missing several regulars and sporting only nine players. After spotting Hawley a 3-1 lead, The A's rallied with runs in each of the 3rd through 6th innings. Aaron Cook scored two insurance runs in the eighth inning with a single. Adam Wagner struck out six batters while gaining the win in relief of Aaron Cook. Keith Hanson entered the game on the hill with the bases loaded in the ninth and struck out the final two batters to earn the save.
7/6/2008- A's Split Games at Warroad
Ada eeked out an 11-8 win in extra innings in the opening game. The A's held a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hold it. The teams traded runs in the extra frames before Ada broke through with a five-run tenth inning. The Ada offense was paced by Kenneth Hayden (four hits) and Jameson Benson (four hits, two homeruns, six RBI's). Benson picked up the win in relief of Hayden.
The A's lacked inspiration in the second game as they fell 2-12. Jameson Benson continued with a hot bat as he slugged another homerun while adding a double.
7/2/2008- Ada Splits Pair of League Games
Ada squeeked out a 3-1 win over Crookston on Wednesday night in Ada. Mike Gullingsrud, Keith Hanson and Kenneth Hayden each had RBI hits; Gullingsrud, Hanson and Eric Hoffman had two hits apiece. David Spies got the win on the mound, scattering five hits, striking out three batters and walking only one. Eric Hoffmann picked up the save as the A's league record moved to 5-3.
The previous night was not as kind to the A's in their visit to East Grand Forks. The Eastsiders broke open a 1-1 game with on onslaught in the later innings to take an 11-1 win in eight innings. Anthony Brenner provided the only offensive highlite for the A's, with a towering homerun to center.
6/25/2008 Ada Wins Pair of Midweek Games
Andy Wagner drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the tenth inning to vault the A's to a 9-8 victory over league foe East Grand Forks on Tuesday night in Ada. The lead changed hands several times throughout the game, but neither team could manage to cross the plate in the latter innings until the tenth frame. Pacing the Ada offense was Chris Ellingson with a three-for-five performance and Keith Hanson with two hits and two RBI's. Eric Hoffmann picked up the win in relief of Aaron Cook. The A's league record is 4-2.
On Wednesday, Ada made the trek up to Bagley to face the Thundercats in a non-league games. Ada came out firing with a 19-0 lead after three innings, and cruised to a 19-7 victory in a game shortened by the ten-run rule. Several A's had multiple hit efforts, led by Eric Hoffman's five-for-six performance; Aaron Cook hit his third homerun of the year. Mark Nelson picked up the win on the mound.
6/22/2008- A's Split with Royals
The homestanding A's split a pair of conference games with Roseau, losing the first game 2-1 and coasting to a 10-0 win in the second game. Kenneth Hayden had an outstanding pitching performance in the first game, allowing only six hits while striking out nine batters. However, Ada managed only five hits and couldn't come through with a big hit in the later innings with runners in scoring position. Aaron Cook's solo homerun represented the only Ada run.
Dave Spies tossed a one-hit shutout in Game 2. Andy Wager laced a single to right field that scored Mark Nelson, who had led off with a single, to end the game in the bottom of the fifth due to the ten-run rule. Ada scattered ten hits, led by multiple hit performances by Anthony Brenner, Jameson Benson and Adam Lee. Brenner had three RBI's, including a two-run shot to right field.
6/20/2008- Walkoff Homerun Vaults Ada over Moorhead Miners
Anthony Brenner led of the bottom of the ninth with a towering homerun to centerfield that propelled the homestanding A's to a 3-2 victory over the Miners. The game was a pitchers duel, with only ten hits total between the two squads and taking less than two hours. The A's took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on the strength of two walks and some fielders choices. Moorhead took a 2-1 lead in the mid-innings. Adam Lee smacked a single in the seventh that tied the game at two apiece. Josh Remer pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits.
6/18/2008- Ada Tops League Foe Crookston
The host A's broke open a close 2-0 game with five runs in each of the 5th and 6th innings and cruised to a 12-2 seven inning win over the rival Crookston Reds. The fifth inning rally was keyed by a bases loaded double by Adam Schumacher that hit the left field foul line and scored three runs. The offense was paced by Jameson Benson, who had three hits. Kenneth Hayden also chipped in two hits and an RBI. The A's offense was well-balanced as every starter collected a hit in the 12-hit onslaught. Adam Schumacher went the distance on the mound for the win.
6/17/2008- Athletics Down Bagley
Ada hosted Bagley in a non-leage game and came away victorious 7-3. Aaron Cook pitched seven solid innings and struck out 12 batters, while knocking out three hits and three RBI's to pace the offense. Eric Hoffman added two hits, including a two RBI single in the sixth inning. Chris Ellingson also added two hits.
6/15/2008 Bemidji Tournament
Ada squeezed in three games amongst rainshowers in the annual Rosco Tournament in Bemidji. The squad finished 1-2 in the tournament, losing close contests to Wadena/ Deer Creek and Soderville, before besting East Bethel on Sunday. Adam Schumacher, Josh Remer and Kenneth Hayden each pitched well in complete game performances.
6/10/2008- A's Winning Streak Ends
The A's five game winning streak came to a halt in East Grand Forks against the Heaters. Ada managed only five hits in the game, and didn't seriously threaten to cross the plate until the 9th inning. Dave Spies pitched a complete game for the A's.
6/4/2008- Ada and Crookston Open Conference Play
In a game originally scheduled for Ada, but moved to Crookston due to wet field conditions, the A's held off the Reds 9-7. It was a marathon 3+ hour affair, with numerous bases on balls and defensive miscues. Ada jumped to a 2-0 first inning lead, only to see the Reds tie it in the bottom half, and extend the lead to 5-3 entering the sixth inning. In the sixth, Ada took advantage of some Crookston miscues and timely hits to bolt to a 9-5 lead. Crookston plated two runs in the bottom half to make it 9-7, and that was the end of the scoring. The A's had 9 hits, but Chris Ellingson had the only multiple hit effort with two. Ada took advantage of nine walks, a hit batter and five Crookston errors. Aaron Cook picked up the win with Adam Schumacher eraning the save.
5/30/2008- Athletics Take Sweep
The A's swept a doubleheader from the visiting Moorhead Expos on Saturday. Ada took Game 1 by a score of 7-3. David Spies was solid on the mound in a complete game effort. Anthony Brennen had three of the team's nine hits, while Adam Lee, Spies and Kyle Nelson each had multiple hit games. Ada dodged a bullet in the sixth inning, when Moorhead loaded the bases with no outs. The Expos followed with a popout, then Aaron Cook caught a potential sac fly in center field and gunned the Expos runner trying to score from third, to end the rally.
Josh Remer pitched six inning of three-hit ball in the second game as the A's won in a rout, 12-3. The A's pounded out ten hits. The offense was paced by Jameson Benson with three hits and 6 RBI's, including a towering three-run homerun. Aaron Cook chipped in with two hits and 2 RBI's, while Kenneth Hayden and Anthony Brennen also had multiple hit efforts.
5/28/2008- A's Stage Late Rally for Win
The A's staged an eighth inning rally to plate five runs and took a 6-4 win over the visiting Bemidji Blue Ox. Bemidji jumped off to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Ada couldn't muster much offense until a solo homerun by Aaron Cook in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, Ada took advantage of some key free passes by Bemidji pitchers and a two-run single off the bat of Taylor Sannes tied the game at four. Subsequent walks with the bases loaded by the visiting hurlers led to the margin of victory for Ada. Adam Schumacher pitched six solid innings on the mound, while Josh Remer picked up the win in relief. The A's had seven hits on the night, led by Mike Gullingsrud's two safeties.
5/18/2008- Doubleheader split with Moorhead Expos
The host A's salvaged a split with a comeback 8-7 win over the Expos in a see-saw affair Sunday afternoon at Tony Sipe Field. Ada spotted Moorhead a 3-0 lead early on, but came back in the fifth inning to take the lead on a pinch hit two run double by Mike Gullingsrud. Moorhead answered in the top of the sixth to reclaim the lead. The A's rallied in the bottom half with a leadoff double by Adam Lee. A base hit scored Lee and Jabby Bakhit, who had walked, for the margin of victory. Aaron Cook picked up the win in relief. Some misplays in the field led to four runs for the visiting Expos in the first game, as they took a 7-3 decision. Aaron Cook was hot at the plate for the A's, with two hits in each of the games.
5/16/2008- Ada Opens Season With Big Win
The homestanding A's pounded out 13 hits and scored in each of the first five innings while cruising to a 14-0 victory over the visiting Moorhead Miners in a 7-inning game shortened by the 10-run rule. A's rookie pitcher David Spies didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning; Moorhead finished the game with two safeties. The Ada hit parade was led by Jameson Benson going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's and two doubles; Kenneth Hayden chipped in with a 2 for 3 performance, including two hits that plated two runs apiece. Rounding out the assault were Anthony Brenner with a 2 for 3 performance and three runs scored, while Taylor Sannes was also 2 for 3.
